Install or update

Download directly here. Pipe is also available in your browser.

Before you install. The Mac and Windows apps don't yet have verified developer signing, so your system may show a warning. If installation is blocked, use Pipe in your browser. There's no need to disable your system's protections.

02 / Nothing to install

In a hurry? Come right in.

Pipe works in your browser, too. Open it, join your team's space and say hello. Your same account is waiting here.

Open in your browser

On an iPhone?

Open Pipe in Safari and add it to your Home Screen. iOS 16.4+ supports web alerts; native call controls need a signed app.

Set up Pipe on iPhone

03 / First time here?

From invitation to your first hello.

Already have an account? Sign in with your workspace address. If you don't know it, ask your team.

  1. Get Pipe

Choose the app for your device above, or open Pipe in your browser with nothing to install.

  2. Open your invite link

Open the invite link your team sent you. It opens the right workspace. In the app, you can also paste it into the Workspace field.

  3. Choose a password and an authenticator

Fill in a username and a password of at least 12 characters, then choose Join workspace. Choose Set up authenticator, confirm with Verify and enable and keep your recovery codes somewhere safe.

  4. Say hello

Write your first message in a conversation, then allow notifications. The same account works on all your devices.

04 / A little help

All set. Step by step.

Installation, your account, notifications and calls. Open the guide you need and take it at your own pace.

Open in your browser
Android: install or update
  1. Download the APK above on your phone and open it.
  2. If Android asks, allow installation from the browser you used to download the file.
  3. Choose Install or Update. If you already have Pipe, don't uninstall it first.
  4. Open Pipe. Already have an account? Choose Sign in. Have an invitation? Choose Join workspace.
  5. Open You (the tab at the bottom of the screen) → Notifications → Set up notifications and allow notifications. Microphone and camera permission will be requested when you use them.
Mac and Windows: install

Mac: quit Pipe with Q or Pipe → Quit Pipe in the menu bar, open the DMG and drag Pipe into Applications. Choose Replace if it's already there, then open it from Applications.

Windows: right-click the Pipe icon beside the clock → Quit Pipe, then run the installer. The X button keeps Pipe running in the background. For the ZIP version, extract the whole folder before opening Pipe.exe.

The installers don't yet have verified developer signing. If your system blocks the app, use Pipe on the web. Your account works there too.

Windows: microphone and camera in calls
  1. Open Settings → Privacy & security → Microphone.
  2. Turn on Microphone access and Let desktop apps access your microphone. Pipe is a desktop app and may not have a separate switch.
  3. For video, open Camera and enable Camera access and Let desktop apps access your camera.
  4. If a device is busy, stop using it in the other app, then retry in Pipe. If an error appears, keep its displayed code for diagnosis.
Mac and Windows: share a screen or window
  1. During a call, choose Share screen.
  2. Select the screen or window you want to show, then choose Share.
  3. If you change your mind, choose Cancel. Your call continues without sharing.

Microphone and camera privacy switches do not control this screen picker. On Mac, if the system requests screen-recording access, allow it in System Settings → Privacy & Security → Screen & System Audio Recording (older macOS: Screen Recording), then reopen Pipe if macOS asks.

iPhone: add Pipe to your Home Screen
  1. Open Pipe in Safari on your iPhone (iOS 16.4 or later).
  2. Tap Share → Add to Home Screen → Add.
  3. Open the new Pipe icon. Sign in, or use your invitation to create an account and set up your authenticator.
  4. Open You (the tab at the bottom of the screen) → Notifications → Set up notifications → Allow.
  5. Choose Check again. Look for Web push alerts are connected.
  6. Have a teammate send a message and start a direct call while your phone is locked. Tap the alert to open Pipe. Test before relying on it.

Web alerts are not native locked-screen call controls. Calls require opening Pipe and allowing microphone/camera when needed. Focus and system settings can silence alerts. A signed native iPhone release is still pending Apple setup.

Your account, authenticator and devices

In You → Security → Sign-in protection, you can replace your authenticator (Replace authenticator) or create new recovery codes (Replace recovery codes). Use an authenticator app or compatible password manager, enter the current code and save your recovery codes separately.

Lost a device or used a shared computer? In You → Security → Signed-in devices, choose Sign out other devices. If you see “Update Pipe to use two-step verification, or sign in on the current website”, install the version above over your existing one and try again.

Notifications: try a quick test together
  1. On Android, open You (the tab at the bottom of the screen) → Notifications → Set up notifications and allow notifications.
  2. Check your phone's settings to make sure Pipe can send notifications. If your phone restricts background activity, allow Pipe to run in the background.
  3. Put Pipe in the background, lock the screen and ask a teammate to send you a direct message, then call you.
  4. Check the sound, incoming call screen and answer and decline buttons. This needs to be confirmed on your phone.

If you used Force stop, reopen Pipe before testing. Check Pipe's quiet hours and your phone's Do Not Disturb setting too.

On Mac and Windows, choose Set up notifications in Pipe, then allow them in system settings: System Settings → Notifications → Pipe on Mac, Settings → System → Notifications → Pipe on Windows. Come back to Pipe and choose Check again. On Windows the X button keeps Pipe in the notification area by the clock, and Quit Pipe in that icon's menu closes it completely. On Mac, closing the window keeps Pipe running, and Pipe → Quit Pipe stops it. Test a message and a call with the window closed before relying on alerts.

A profile photo. A call that stays with you.

Add a photo in You → Edit photo → Add photo (JPEG or PNG, up to 5 MB), then Save photo. Drag files or images onto a conversation or thread. They appear in your draft; press Send when you are ready. Up to 5 files per message, 100 MB each. Zip a folder before attaching it.

During a call, press the arrow (Back to chat) to return to the conversation. The call continues, with a compact bar to return to it (Return to call), mute your microphone (Mute call) or hang up (Hang up).

Returning to chat doesn't turn off your camera. Use the camera button (Camera off) for that, and Hang up when you're done.

Good conversations start with hello.
